At the time these shots were taken these two look like pets, although they don't belong to me..... again I don't think of them as pets, they are very efficient working dogs when called upon.
For those of you that may not know her yet, this is my dog Sage. She is so far removed from the term pet. She is my constant companion, she does a lot of my leg work when it comes to the horses. I'm not sure I would call her a guard dog....she's a bit of a chicken but not much gets by her , she certainly announces the presence of others.Mikey and George, they are barn cats their job is to keep the vermin away and they do it pretty well. They only come to me and again I don't think of them as pets. I guess the majority of the human race would call these animals pets. If you ask some people that have animals I think a whole lot of them would tell you they are not pets but something much bigger and important than that. The term pet makes me think of ownership, I don't believe we own our animals I think that they just let us believe that.......so call me crazy but I don't have any pets. Well fellow bloggers that's my soapbox for the week I look forward to your definitions of "Pets"

I have to agree with you on the pet theory, although my cats are more pet than hunters; Foose gets the mice but Bubby couldn't be bothered. And by the way- yer BAD!
I love the look of your Sage dog. "Pets" are like that around here too!
Great shots, then I go home to visit mom I'm always mobbed by her dog Maggie and the cat Bella. I agree they are more family than pets..:-))
Lovely animals...you dog Sage has such tender eyes!

That's a wonderful shot of Sage...she's beautiful!
The world revolves because of how different everyone thinks about things. Even though some of my horses have a job to do, I still consider them pets because I consider them to be part of my "family." Like I said in my post...I draw the line with the chickens!
Love the looks on the cat's faces.
what kind of cat is the whitish/gingerish one? it's adorable
Karen I don't think I explained myself very well, I didn't mean because they all had jobs they weren't pets. I meant they are all so important to me as individual creatures and to reduce them to the term pet just doesn't work for me. I guess what I'm trying to say is that they are more like people to me and I don't consider the people I love to be my pets......hmm still sounds crazy Whatever I give up. I think some people out there will know exactly what I'm trying to express albeit poorly.
Moresecretwhispers, that cat is Mikey and he is part Siamese and I have no idea what else. The orange cat is George and they are brothers. The Mom was a tiny part Siamese and funny colored cat. That's all I know. Yes they came from the same litter. She had Mikey and a little female the same color,George and a black one. Interesting huh.
Great shots. I like the one of Sage.

Oh, and I really like what Wikipedia says about pets: "A pet is an animal kept for companionship and enjoyment or a household animal, as opposed to livestock, laboratory animals, working animals or sport animals, which are kept for economic reasons."
That's how I see my pets. They are my companions. And my husband fondly calls me his pet when he's being affectionate. I like that. It's a term of endearment. :)

All of your companions are lovely. Sage is so sweet, and the kitties are so pretty.:)
My "pets" are my companions too and part of my family. They may or may not have jobs but they are certainly part of my life.
Nice pics!
